So High Pre Primary, Umhlali
Situated under a canopy of shady trees, nestles a precious little school - So-High Methodist Pre-Primary. Established in 1962, our school is overseen by the Umhlali Methodist Church.
We have a proud reputation of being a leader in pre-primary education for 28 years and a principal feeder to our local primary schools.
So-High is an exciting bridge between home and school, thoroughly preparing your child for formal education in a safe, caring and Christian environment.
We cater for the whole child; meeting his or her emotional, physical, social and intellectual needs. We do this by providing :
- creative activities,
- painting,
- educational games,
- construction toys,
- sensopathic activities and
- outdoor apparatus
Teachers employed here are qualified, dedicated and competent. They attend regular seminars and workshops in order to stay ahead in our changing world. At present there are four groups in our school.
Your child's day at So-High starts at 7.30 a.m. and the formal programme commences with a greeting ring at 8.00am.
Our weekly routine gives children a sense of predictability and an understanding of the cycle of days.
After-Care facilities are available in the afternoons.
Special Events
Birthday Rings - Birthdays are extremely important in a child's life. From the Blue Group upwards the whole group celebrates this occasion with the child. Parents are invited to attend this ring and requested to bring a cake. No other party fare is required.
Baker-Baker - Each child has a turn to be the Baker. The mother is notified on the Monday and she sends cake/biscuits to school on the Thursday morning. During morning snack the Baker wears an apron and hat and sells his/her cakes to the group.
There are also a number of events in the So-High calender which are eagerly awaited by the children:
- Father's Evening - Where the children and their Dads are invited to participate in activities their children enjoy.
- Grandparents Day - Children enjoy having Granny and Grandpa visit their school.
- Sports Day - Where everyone is a winner!
- Throughout the year children are treated to puppet shows and entertaining and exciting visitors.
- Children also go on outings to Croc Valley, Flag Farm and the Grade R's have a traditional trip to Durban by train.
- The highlight of the year must surely be the magical Christmas Carols and starlit picnic in the garden where parents and children gather to celebrate this special time of the year.
